Happy Khmer New Year! 😊

Get ready to celebrate the Cambodian New Year! The holiday spirit is in the air as schools close for the festivities and the streets come alive with colorful Khmer New Year decorations.
With the Cambodian hot season in full swing and the holiday rush, our family decided to head to Japan for a much-needed cooldown. But as we stepped into the crisp Japanese air, we couldn't help but miss the warmth of Cambodia that we were used to.
This time, our main focus in Japan is to set up our very first shop at the Cambodia Festival, happening at Yoyogi Park in Tokyo on May 3rd and 4th. We're thrilled to showcase our Tukbook series and Khmer language teaching materials. So if you are around Tokyo in early May, we would love to meet you in person where you can see our new self published books and learning resources.

Outcomes for the past three months 💪

These activities were carried out during the first quarter of the second year of the CLIP2 project, the project's final year:
- The 5th workshop and follow-up school visits
- Khmer version of Facebook with more than 4,000 followers as of March
- 'Telegram channel' for sharing our teaching materials, with nearly 850 subscribers
- YouTube channel with about 3,200 subscribers
- The number of visitors to our free educational materials website reached 15,000 for the first time
The number of interactions on TukTuk's Youtube and social networking sites has increased since participating in the Phnom Penh Book Fair the previous year. Every month, more and more people come to our website, and as a small organization, people having access to our resources is a huge leap forward for TukTuk.
We will be thrilled if the name TukTuk spreads not just through our advertising efforts but also through word-of-mouth, such as "I'd like to try it" or "It was a good educational tool" among those who have used our materials.
Our website is gaining buzz! 🙏

The Pursat Provincial Office of Education (POE) had a meeting in early March to report on its 2022 efforts. We were invited to attend, as were officials and principals from all seven districts in the province and organizations working in education in Pursat.
There, we received certificates for our 2022 initiatives. The deputy director of the POE and the Early Childhood Education (ECE) department, who is working with us, introduced our website in front of everyone. We also handed out fliers about it. The response was even higher than anticipated, with eager teachers listening to us and others saying, "I've been waiting for a website like this!"
Because we cannot engage closely with many teachers simultaneously, we hope that TukTuk resources will be valuable to teachers outside of the target schools through this opportunity.
Khmer of the month
Khmer Word: Keila
The United Nations has designated April 6 as the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace. This month's Khmer word, "keila" means "sport." The Sea Game and biennial Southeast Asian Olympic Games will finally be held in Cambodia from the 5th to the 17th of next month, and the anticipation is high. 🥎

New resource package, finally completed! 🛺

In March, we finally completed the classroom decoration resource package that we began in October. We started by going to the project schools and spoke with ECE department teachers to figure out what kind of decorations were needed. We were eventually able to create 41 different sorts of classroom decorations!
We will conduct the second classroom decoration inspection in May, so teachers at the target schools are already using TukTuk decorations and reconditioning their classrooms to make them more appealing to children.
Welcome from Rotary Canada! 🛫

TukTuk's CLIP initiative has required us to report on our activities on a daily basis. The Rotary Club of Calgary in Canada initiated the project and helps raise funds for our programs on a daily basis. Since the CLIP project was established in 2021 during the COVID pandemic, we have only been able to communicate online, but Lori has come all the way from Canada to see the project on the ground.
During her visit, she and the staff of the Rotary Club of Pursat, who have been supporting us daily on a local level, went to the POE to discuss the project with the deputy director and the head of the ECE department and also made follow-up visits to the project target school, among other things, so that we could get a good look at the project.
During this follow-up visit, we discovered that the previous workshop's computer-based worksheet production had been well received and that some teachers have already been handing out worksheets they had created to their students or creating new worksheets by arranging them in their own way.
Voluntuker spotlight | Lori

This month we had the pleasure of hosting Lori from Canada for a few days to check out the CLIP2 project. CLIP (Cambodia Literacy Integrative Project) is a Rotary International-funded project primarily supported by the Rotary Club of Pursat in Cambodia and the Rotary Club of Calgary Downtown in Canada. Lori is on the CLIP committee in Calgary and took the time to visit us at our office to see the project on the ground.
You might be thinking that she does not sound like a voluntuker, but in fact, Rotary members volunteer their time to support projects such as CLIP and help to raise much-needed funds, and guide principals to keep projects on track for the betterment of local communities. Not only that, Lori spent a hectic day on the book publishing production line. She also is our first customer, buying our new book, "We Can - Just Differently, for another disability support project in neighboring Battambang. Thanks, Lori, for being a voluntuker both in Cambodia and Canada!!
We are currently looking for volunteers with the following skillsets to help TukTuk bring educational resources to Cambodia;
- Google Ads
- Fundraising
If you want to get involved or know someone with skills that could help us spread positive education in Cambodia, hit that link below and say hi (we're friendly, we promise). 😉
