Early childhood education is the period between birth and eight years of age. Children meet enormous developmental milestones in these years, from learning to walk and talk to reading and writing. And this is why TukTuk is so dedicated to setting an educational foundation for young children in Cambodia. The early years set the stage for a child’s life.
Sadly, only 23% of Khmer children are enrolled in pre-primary education. Meaning a generation of children is missing vital stages of development. The department of education states that ‘early childhood education is essential for the holistic development of a child's social, emotional, cognitive and physical needs in order to build a solid and broad foundation for lifelong learning and wellbeing. TukTuk aims to empower communities and act as a vehicle for positive early childhood education.
Our amazing team is bridging the resource gap found in many Cambodian communities. This gap extends beyond limited pens and paper, stretching to a lack of curriculum structures and teaching support that enables children to reach their full educational potential and achieve those vital milestones.
We have already created over 500 Khmer aligned education resources, including our own tailor made Khmer children’s book ‘Jack the Giant’. We have also implemented physical and digital resources in 13 communities and completed more than 1000 hours of teacher training and workshops. These actions ensure a sustainable future for early childhood education in Cambodia and empower communities to grow and flourish. Educating the children of Cambodia today will continue to educate the children of tomorrow.
TukTuk relies on the generous support of volunteers, sponsors and donations. 100% of donations to TukTuk is used for the benefit of Cambodian early childhood education. Please help by donating $3 per month and be part of Cambodia’s journey.
