Book fair, last year of CLIP 2, farewell to Phan Ey
TukTalk 62 reports the Cambodia Book Fair with over 500 visitors at the TukTuk booth, plans for the final CLIP2 year and a farewell to musician Phan Ey.
The year 2023 has begun!😊

How was your Holiday season? TukTuk celebrated the end of the 2022 party (and a birthday party for Fy and Phan Ey, both of whose birthdays are on New Year’s Day!) and we held the first party in 2023 which was really special for us and everyone on the team, including those who typically work away from the office, gathered to attend. It was filled with both laughter and tears because... sadly, we had to say goodbye to Phan Ey, TukTuk's only musician. As a result of the lack of funding for the music crew, we had to let Phan Ey go after working with us over 4 years. Phan Ey, who at first struggled to write songs for children, is now so good at it that he can get Milly to dance, even though she doesn't comprehend the language!
Phan Ey has expressed a desire to become a professional musician since beginning work at TukTuk. He has composed many of his own original songs and organizes live events every weekend in Battambang, so we can expect him to fly even higher in the future. But Phan Ey will always be a part of TukTuk family member, and we will all continue to support him!
TukTuk is short one of its own, but we are excited about the new challenges that wait for us in 2023, and we look forward to working with you, TukKrousah, and all our other supporters in 2023!

Our progress in last three months 🏆

The first year of the two-year CLIP2 Project was completed successfully last month. The following tasks were done throughout a three-month period from October to December.
- The 4th follow-up school visit
- Creation of the 8th storybook and its resource package
- Annual Meeting
During these three months, we have also been planning for next year's activities. We were able to work on CLIP2 and CLIP3 projects with the help of members of the Rotary Club of Pursat. It was a tough three months, but it taught us that by using our ingenuity, we could broaden the boundaries of what our team could do.
Once again, to the university! 👀

As was mentioned in the previous issue of TukTalk, students from Seinan Jogakuin University in Fukuoka Prefecture are working on a class project to help create instructional materials for TukTuk. This time, Keiko, who is back in Japan, came to attend their class and see them in action.
The students were split into five groups: storybook production, activity game creation, Instagram promotion of TukTuk, fundraising, and engagement with Japanese children using our Kamishibai.
The team in charge of creating the educational materials seemed to have a tough time coming up with ideas that would work in Cambodia, which is a different environment than Japan, but with the help of the internet and drawing from their own previous experiences, they were eventually able to formulate a slew of new ideas.
We are looking forward to seeing the results of each group's efforts!
Khmer of the month
Khmer Word: Koldaw
Here we are at the beginning of the year 2023! What "Koldaw (goal)" have you set for this year? Let us work together to achieve our goals so that this year is even more successful than the previous one and TukTuk can work even more closely with teachers.💪

First participation in a book fair! 📚

TukTuk took part in a significant event with more than 100,000 attendees for the first time! It was the Cambodia Book Fair, held in the capital city of Phnom Penh.
It took place over three days from December 9th to 11th, during which we sold "Jack the Giant" books and introduced Cambodia's first free online educational materials website, and over 500 people visited the TukTuk booth to see the materials in person. To our joy, people who already use the materials visited us (they actually wanted to buy the materials), and a member of the Cambodian royal family arrived and purchased the book. Additionally, several well-known individuals from the nation paid us a visit; we anticipate that this will increase awareness of our educational resources among Cambodians.
Actually participating in the fair, we realized there is a growing interest and concern for education, especially in the capital city. We were surprised at the number of people who wanted to purchase our classroom decoration materials, printable games, and worksheets, which we had displayed just for introductions, even after we introduced them as free downloads. In the near future, we will explore the possibility of generating funds for our activities by selling our educational materials so that we can make our activities a more sustainable method.
What are our activities for 2023? 🌠

This is the last year of the CLIP2 Project. During the course of this school year, we plan to engage in the following activities with our target teachers in order to help them grow into leaders who can share what they've learned with their peers:
- 3 workshops (introduction of TukTuk's educational resources and making teaching materials using computers)
- 3 follow-up school visits
- The 2nd school assessment
- Project closing meeting (determine the project)
Over the past year, the target teachers and officers from the education bureau have internalized and implemented much of the project’s contents. All of us at TukTuk will continue to work hard for the rest of the year, exchanging ideas with them so that they can be proud to have been a part of the initiative. 💪
Voluntuker spotlight | Phan Ey

Phan Ey, a music creative who has been working for TukTuk since 2018 left the team last month. He has made 47 government songs which the government assigned for teachers to use, 34 TukTuk original and translated songs, ukulele lessons for teachers, and the 7th TukTuk story book, 'Being Good.' Because of his songs, many children are now singing, dancing, and appreciating music.✨
Here is a message from Phan Ey👇
'I was very happy to be a part of TukTuk, and I have many memories of going to preschools for the Mobile Library project and singing songs with children in the schools and villages. There were several incidents, such as when it was cold, hot, or when the tuk-tuk didn't work well on the way to meet the children, but we always helped each other with smiles on our faces. I am very grateful to TukTuk for giving me so many good opportunities. I have experienced and learned a lot from my tasks. From now on, I will continue to study music for my family and my future self to graduate from school. Lastly, I wish everyone who supports TukTuk happiness and good health!'
He is an exceptional musician who is skilled in various instruments, including the ukulele, guitar, piano, and drums. He also writes his own lyrics and even composes music for professional musicians! It won't be long before Phan Ey will be noticed in Cambodia. 😎
Even though he left our team, he will always be a part of the TukTuk family💛 We at TukTuk are looking forward to seeing more of Phan Ey in the future!
We are currently looking for volunteers with the following skillsets to help TukTuk bring educational resources to Cambodia;

- Fundraising
