2025, we're entering the final stretch! 👊🏽

Autumn is event season at Japanese kindergartens, and Milly recently experienced her very first mini sports day! Since Cambodian preschools don’t yet hold events where parents can come and watch (or join!), Mayu is eager to pick up ideas during her time in Japan—especially ones that can be easily adapted back in Cambodia ♪
Meanwhile, before we wrap up our time in Pursat, we’ve introduced Friday Café Time to boost team spirit for the final push on CLIP3 and our new project! (With a few conditions, of course 🤭) During a slightly longer break than usual, the whole team heads out to one of Pursat’s many new cafés—there’s quite a café boom happening! It’s been a refreshing change of scenery, and the initiative has been warmly received by everyone. Morale is high, and the team now looks forward to this little ritual each week ♪
With warm wishes,
Adrian, Mayu & Milly 🦘👘🧒🦘👘🧒
Final project survey 📜

In August, we conducted our final follow-up school visits and completed the endline survey to assess the impact of our two-year project. The survey explored how teachers were using each teaching material and what changes had taken place in their lessons over the past two years. (For detailed survey results, please take a look here.)
We were thrilled to find that all 26 participating teachers reported positive changes in their teaching methods through the project. During the workshops, we heard many inspiring comments such as:
“Exchanging ideas with teachers from other areas I don’t usually interact with broadened my range of lesson ideas.”
“Actually trying out TUKTUK’s teaching materials helped me confidently do read-alouds and dances in class without feeling self-conscious.”
“I learned to create teaching materials using computers and to make resources from everyday items without spending money.”
“Thanks to TUKTUK’s rich teaching materials, I now have more lesson ideas and lesson preparation has become much easier.”
It was also deeply rewarding to see teachers who were not directly part of the project become role models for others—actively sharing and promoting the use of TUKTUK materials. This truly reflects our project’s goal of empowering teachers to become leaders who advance early childhood education in their communities.
There are still many more stories of our teachers’ dedication that we hope to share. But for now, we’re preparing for our project closing meeting this month—and we look forward to writing about that and more in next month’s issue! 😊
Three-month outcomes (Jul - Sep 2025) 🎉

Khmer of the month
Khmer Word: Bon Aem 🍬
October 14th is National Dessert Day—and Cambodia certainly has no shortage of bon aem (sweets)! There are so many varieties that it’s nearly impossible to remember them all. You’ll find different recipes across regions, with each shop adding its own unique twist. So when you visit Cambodia, don’t miss the chance to try some of these delightful Cambodian sweets! 😋
Khmer Food: Nom Lapau (Pumpkin cake) 👇

The Japanese students' artwork is complete! 🦢

The illustrations for “The Ugly Duckling,” drawn over the past year by students from the English Department at Seinan Jo Gakuin University, are finally complete and ready to be shared!
In Cambodia, several stories for storytelling are included in the preschool curriculum. However, since the actual picture books aren’t distributed by the Ministry of Education and no digital versions exist, teachers often struggle to prepare their own materials. To help bridge this gap, we adapted the well-known story “The Ugly Duckling” into a Cambodian version—and invited the students to create illustrations based on that text.
The students’ artwork has a distinct charm that sets it apart from TUKTUK’s usual picture book style, which always makes it a favorite among teachers and children alike. This time is no exception—the illustrations turned out absolutely adorable! 🥰
These will soon be transformed into Kamishibai and animations to bring joy to children across Cambodia!
The picture book by Leakhena is complete! 🛕

This marks the fourth picture book created by the Tukstaff! Written by Leakhena, “Pchum Ben” beautifully reflects her passion for preserving Cambodian culture for future generations.
Pchum Ben is a 15-day Cambodian religious festival and one of the country’s most important annual events, alongside the Khmer New Year. Each year, families visit temples to pay respects to their ancestors. During this time, Phnom Penh grows quiet as many people return to their hometowns, while the countryside comes alive with the warmth and laughter of family gatherings.
The picture book portrays scenes of temple visits and even includes instructions for making Nom Ong Som, a traditional Cambodian dish enjoyed during the festival. Since every family celebrates Pchum Ben in their own way, the Tukstaff had many thoughtful discussions to shape the story’s content. Through this process, they also deepened their own understanding and appreciation of Cambodian culture.
Voluntuker spotlight | Moni Reach

This month, we’re excited to introduce our brilliant Cambodian volunteer who’s been supporting TUKTUK’s free educational materials website behind the scenes!
What is your current occupation? I am an AI Trainer at Proserve Perform, a small company located in Phnom Penh.
How did you connect with TUKTUK? I met Adrian in July 2025 while we were both in line to check in at Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok, Thailand. We happened to be on the same flight back to Cambodia. While waiting, we chatted about various topics, and that’s when he told me about his charity work—TUKTUK.
What do you do for TUKTUK? Adrian mentioned that he wanted to add an AI feature to the website and invited me to take part. I was grateful to be noticed and given such a great opportunity to apply my AI skills—it’s definitely valuable experience for my career growth. I drafted a plan, Adrian approved it, and we started right away! So far, we’ve completed Phase 1 and deployed it for internal testing. Once the project is complete, users will be able to search and chat in natural Khmer language on the TUKTUK website, making it much easier to find relevant educational content.
What do you think about the Rermork Digital Library? The library is rich and comprehensive—it covers a wide range of educational content thanks to the dedicated work of the TUKTUK team. I was truly impressed to see that, beyond written content, the website also features pictures and videos, making learning more engaging and enjoyable.
It was a chance airport meeting that brought us our newest volunteer, Moni Reach Tang! ✈️ As an AI Trainer and now a VolunTUKer, he’s using his technical expertise to make the Rermork Digital Library even more user-friendly through natural language search technology.
We are currently looking for volunteers with the following skill sets to help TukTuk bring educational resources to Cambodia;
- Google Ads
- Fundraising
- Website Development
- Videographer
If you want to get involved or know someone with skills that could help us spread positive education in Cambodia, hit that link below and say hi (we're friendly, we promise). 😉
