HAPPY FATHER'S DAY!
How is our amazing TukTuk family? In Cambodia, the government decided not to start school until the new school year in November. Team TukTuk will keep working remotely but the rainy season has started so it is getting harder to connect to the internet. (Sounds crazy but for some reason in Cambodia, rain makes the internet slow)
While we are remote working, Leakhena decided to work from Phnom Penh so that her and her children can be with her husband 👨👨👧👧 It's one nice thing about Covid-19, it gives us more time to spend with our family. As you probably noticed, this month TukTalk was a bit late but it's all to celebrate Father's Day of course. (At least in Japan, Canada, the UK and the US)

CHECK OUT OUR TUKBRANDED WORKSHEETS 📃
While schools are not operating, the Cambodian Government is working hard to spread online and TV classes. A lot of apps are also being released. For the country areas, teachers go around the villages and form small groups of 3-4 children to teach. Although they are trying hard, there are not many preschool materials available. So here we are! Trying to create resources for preschool teachers.
We now have 3 books ready and Choven is creating worksheets for each book by having support from Roberta from Norway. At the moment, we have resources ready for "Jack the Giant" and sharing on Google Drive. Some of them, you can use without knowing Khmer so please try!
"HOW TO" VIDEOS FOR EVERY RESOURCE 🎥
When we create resources, we always share with the Department of Education and get feedback. We were told that even the simplest worksheets need to have a proper explanation, therefore, we are making instruction videos for each and every resource that we create. Our French intern, Anaelle, has been shooting videos from France and Leakhena is editing them.
Leakhena has learned to use new software to make them so she struggled first, but now she is getting really good at it. Right now we only have instruction videos for worksheets but we are planning to make them for all the activities once we can have groups of kids for our demonstrations. You can see our current videos on Youtube. If you know anyone who is Khmer, please share it with them!
"HELLO SONG" SAYS HELLO ON YOUTUBE😄
Finally it is ready! The TukTuk version of "Hello Song" is available on Youtube. The preschool curriculum in Cambodia includes 4 hours of learning a foreign language. Jack the Giant seemed like a great book to introduce English, as the children were introduced to 2 English speakers, Jack and Kattie. The "Hello Song" plays a big role in this.
Jack (not quite a giant) & Margaret were in Pursat when we introduced the song in preschools and villages and as it's an English song, we asked them to be part of the video! The singing part was finally completed with the help of Mayu's friends. We hope the children will enjoy getting to know English through this song!
KHMER OF THE MONTH
Khmer Word: Bong Srey / Bong Pros
"Bong" means "a person older", "srey" means "woman" and "pros" means "man" so "Bong srey" means "older sister" and "Bong pros" means "older brother". In Cambodia, people are often called by status rather than by name so this phrase is a respectful way to refer to not just family but friends as well. Cambodians don't use "Bong Srey" and "Bong Pros" if you are not close to them, so use it with your Khmer friends and they will love it👍

100 Likes for Facebook Khmer Page👍
It's been a few months since Leakhena started our Khmer facebook page and we now have more than 100 Likes! The Khmer facebook page started under the supervision of Oscar with the goal to create a community of people involved in early childhood education in Cambodia where they can exchange information. The first step is to start by sending messages to teachers and sharing teaching materials.
We post messages to encourage teachers to take pride in their work and also to introduce TukTuk's resources. We have a meeting with Oscar once a week even after Oscar returned to England. The first step is to spread the word locally before expanding out to teachers all over Cambodia!
VOLUNTUKER SPOTLIGHT | OSCAR
TukTuk has changed a lot over the past 5 years, but never as much as when Oscar from the UK came along. As a branding specialist, he transformed our modest beginnings into the smart professional brand of TukTuk Charity that you see today. Oscar spent over 7 months in Cambodia achieving this amazing feat and still continues to volunteer from afar.
Thanks Oscar for being the all-round champ that you are✨
We are currently looking for volunteers with the following skill sets to help TukTuk bring educational resources to Cambodia;
