CLIP3 equipment sent to schools, Seinan Jo Gakuin University students' volunteer projects for TukTuk, and a new partnership with the startup Rean Aan.
Hello from Pursat 🌞

It's hard to believe it's been a month since our return to Pursat. With Choven back in the office balancing remote and in-person work, the atmosphere in TukTuk has become nostalgic. Meanwhile, Milly has started attending a local school in the mornings (since we don't have daycare), making it easier to work with Mayu.
With the launch of the CLIP3 project, our days have been a whirlwind of activities (details below 👇), and it feels like we've been sprinting a marathon since the start of the New Year! This pace is likely to continue until Khmer New Year in April, but we're committed to managing it with occasional moments of rest.
Pursat is bustling with familiar faces again, so we invite you to join us to bring the refreshing breeze for us! 😊
Warm regards,
Adrian & Mayu & Milly 🦘👘🧒
CLIP3 tools arrived one after another 🚚

In preparation for this month's upcoming inaugural workshop of the CLIP3 project, we took steps last month to compile and donate various tools to the designated schools. Key items include a laptop for teachers to search and generate teaching materials using TukTuk's free teaching resource website, a laminator for material creation, speakers to incorporate music into the classroom, a collection of nearly 100 storybooks to expose students to diverse stories, and shelves for the organized storage of teaching materials to be distributed over the next two years.
These tools were carefully assembled and dispatched ahead of the workshop's official commencement, recognizing their essential role in enhancing the effectiveness of the diverse activities planned by TukTuk in collaboration with the teachers. Currently, we are in the midst of delivering these resources via tuk-tuk, with more detailed information to be provided in the upcoming issue next month! 🛺
Teachers are eagerly anticipating the arrival of these tools, and we are hopeful that they will be able to utilize them to create even more enriching classes independently. To meet these expectations, the first workshop is set to commence with a comprehensive lecture on computer utilization, reflecting the heightened enthusiasm among the teachers.
Stay tuned for next month's issue, where we will provide an insightful glimpse into the workshop proceedings! 😊
This year, once again, with Japanese students! 🗾

Since the 2021 academic year, we have been collaborating with Professor Kris of the English department at Seinan Jo Gakuin University in Japan. Her students, enrolled in the "International Volunteer Seminar" course, have been actively engaged in supporting our initiatives.
Though we've provided occasional updates in the past, this year, once more, each student was organized into groups to collaborate with TukTuk and participate in a range of activities. Just before the conclusion of the semester, they presented their group projects online, similar to last year. 👇
- Kamishibai Making The students adapted the Cambodian preschool story "City Rats And Country Rats" to Khmer culture, creating drawings for the Kamishibai. While depicting scenes involving food, some students expressed wanting to try Khmer food while searching for it. 😋
- Activity Making They produced an instructional video demonstrating how to play "Fukuwarai," a game akin to pin-the-tail-on-the-donkey. This game is particularly suitable for teachers as it requires simple tools.
- Translating A TukTuk Storybook While our storybooks are typically crafted in Khmer and English, the students undertook the challenging task of translating them into Japanese. They highlighted the difficulty of using child-friendly language and conveying emotions and situations uniquely through Japanese expressions for each English word.
- Collecting Donations The students strategically placed collection boxes for unwanted items around the university to secure donations. In just two months, they gathered an impressive haul of 108 books, 56 CDs, 2 postcards, and 21 stamps. 🙌
- Storytelling With The TukTuk's Storybooks The students shared TukTuk's storybooks, including "Happy Khmer New Year!" and "Who Painted The Sky?" at a children's center and a primary school. Japanese children showed keen interest in both stories. After storytelling, during a card game about Cambodia, they expressed curiosity about fruits and animals not commonly found in Japan.
During the online Q&A session, Choven, our illustrator, inquired about the reception of her drawings in Japan and sought advice on creating a Kamishibai. The vibrant and colorful design of TukTuk's storybooks was crafted to also capture the attention of Japanese children!
For more photos of the students who contributed this time, check them out here. 👀 Once again, our heartfelt gratitude to Professor Kris and all the students for their invaluable support this year!! 😊
Khmer of the month
Khmer Word: Vobbathmr
This year, Chinese New Year is celebrated on February 10, and Chinese families in Cambodia start gathering with their families to celebrate from the 9th, marking New Year's Eve! The atmosphere is suddenly becoming more and more Chinese. 🧧 With a significant portion of Cambodian families having Chinese heritage, you can immerse yourself not only in Cambodian culture but also in Chinese "Vobbathmr (culture)" in a somewhat familiar setting.
Khmer Food: Nom Pong Tea (Duck Egg Cake) 👇

Collaboration with young talent in Cambodia! 🤝

TukTuk has recently entered into a partnership with a fledgling organization in Cambodia! This startup, named "REAN AAN," is spearheaded by a dynamic team of young professionals with backgrounds in primary school teaching and web engineering. The Khmer translation of their name, "learn how to read," mirrors their mission, akin to TukTuk's, of launching a website and app for teachers to search and download educational materials.
The collaboration came about when a representative from REAN AAN, inspired by TukTuk's provision of free preschool educational resources, reached out to us directly. Impressed by our commitment to crafting our own materials, they expressed interest in featuring TukTuk's resources on their platform!
Based in Phnom Penh and having collaborated with the Ministry of Education, REAN AAN is well-positioned to expedite the dissemination of our resources among teachers. Like TukTuk, their team has endeavored to establish an online system for sharing teaching materials, recognizing the challenges faced by teachers in accessing materials, even in the capital, and the scarcity of Khmer language teaching resources. We are delighted to collaborate with the younger generation of Khmer at REAN AAN, fostering optimism that they can contribute to making TukTuk's vision of "enhancing education through the efforts of Cambodians themselves" a reality! 🎊
During this month's workshop, we plan to introduce their website to teachers, eagerly anticipating their reactions and feedback. ♪

In this issue, we’d like to introduce you to Sokvorn, a dedicated Rotary Club of Pursat (RCP) member.
What's your role at RCP?: I am a member of the Membership Committee and work to get more people to join our club.
What do you do outside RCP?: I teach English at a public high school and also manage my private school. At this school, children have the opportunity to learn languages and computer skills.
Impression of CLIP2: I think the CLIP project is a very useful initiative for education in Cambodia because it supports teachers in improving their capacities.
Hopes for Preschool Education in Cambodia: Early childhood education is the foundation for a better future for children and Cambodia. We believe that valuing education means valuing children for their entire lives, which also means valuing employment in our country.
Sokvorn, a school principal with extensive experience in teaching, school management, and administration, joined our efforts with the launch of CLIP3. His invaluable contributions include a clear understanding of the project's objectives, effective communication with target teachers, and collaboration with district education department personnel to ensure the smooth progression of the project.
